Badminton Europe skriver:

”This is the twentieth edition of the European U17 Team Championships, but it is the first time the trophy is awarded to France.

It is yet another story that highlights the incredible development France has undergone over the past decades. In recent years, the nation has established itself with several players and pairs in the world top 10, tournament victories in some of the world’s biggest events, and, more recently, multiple European gold medals.

France entered the championships as the top seed, with Denmark as the second seed — the two nations that have also dominated the senior level in recent years.

Both young national teams lived up to their seedings and met this morning in the final.

On the senior stage, Denmark has usually had the upper hand when the two nations meet in a final, but today’s U17 final would unfold differently.

The final ended 3–1 to France.

The first match to kick off the final was the mixed doubles: France’s Rayan Benaissa and Manon Heitzmann against Denmark’s Birk Norman and Sophia Loudrup.

In a close contest where the two pairs followed each other to 16–16 in the first game, the French pair pulled ahead and secured it 21–17. The second game was similarly tight, and towards the end it looked like a third game would be needed. But trailing 19–17, the French pair won four unanswered points and gave France a 1–0 lead.

The second match was the men’s singles between France’s Mady Sow, the top seed in the individual event, and Denmark’s Elias Martin.

The first game was close, with Sow leading most of the way, and he secured it for France. In the second game, the French talent showcased his qualities and closed the match convincingly with 21–12.

This meant everything could be decided in the third match: the women’s singles between France’s Neela Te and Denmark’s Diya Cherian.
Both players had won all their previous matches at the event leading up to today’s final. They played an incredibly strong and close match, with Neela Lengue Te taking the first game 21–15, before Diya Mary Cherian claimed the second 21–19.

In the deciding third game, the Dane was the stronger player, winning 21–12 and keeping Denmark alive.

The fourth match was the men’s doubles, where France once again fielded a top-seeded pair for the individual event: Rayan Benaissa and Mady Sow, who faced Birk Norman and Maximilian Ørding Kauffmann.

Although the Danes fought with everything they had, they were never truly able to make the match close — the French pair simply played too well.
With a 21–11, 21–16 victory, the French team could storm onto the court and celebrate the win together.

The full French squad that won the gold consisted of:

Female players:
Neela Lengue Te
Manon Heitzmann
Zoe Martin-mouchain
Melia Beule
Elisa Hess
Mathilde Pinna

Male players:
Lenny Hubert
Clément Massias
Rayan Benaissa
Arush Ravikumar
Mady Sow

Congratulations to the French U17 team on winning the gold medal, and likewise to Denmark for a great tournament and a well-earned set of silver medals.

The bronze medals go to England and Germany — congratulations to them as well from Badminton Europe.

The end of the team event also marks the start of the individual tournament, which begins this afternoon at 15:00 CET.
