Women’s single
Li Xuerui, China – P. V. Sindhu, India
This women’s single final is quite open and both players each won two of their four previous encounters. It’s third time this year that Li Xuerui and P. V. Sindhu play each other. The Chinese won at the Asian Championships while the Indian won at the World Championships.
Li Xuerui is reigning Olympic champion from 2012. She was a solid number 1 at the world ranking until June but has fallen back as number 6 today. At this week’s Denmark Open she won twice in two sets and twice in three sets. One of the sets in each match were won by a two points margin only. Last year she won the final against Wang Yihan.
P. V. Sindhu played a really good tournament so far beating the world champion, Carolina Marín after 75 minutes’ play yesterday. Already in second round she beat number 4 in the world, Tai Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei, and Friday Wang Yihan was on the losing side against the Indian. Sindhu herself is currently ranked 13. It’s first time ever she is in a Super Serie Premier final.
